The pool setting is part of the appeal: tournament entry has included pool access, and the snack bar makes a long event day easier.

The Verona Community Center gym at 880 Bloomfield Avenue is the indoor home. Spring 2026 offered one hour adult blocks on Tuesday and Wednesday from late morning into early afternoon. Indoor scheduling gives retirees, flexible workers, and weather conscious players a reliable town option.

The fall guide keeps the pattern broad, with daytime adult blocks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays plus pool court sessions on Wednesday from 5 to 6 pm and 6 to 7 pm. The fall recreation lineup also includes an introductory youth program for grades 3 through 5.

A Practical First Step

Young beginners can start with Verona's fall Intro to Pickleball program for grades 3 through 5. Adult newcomers have a particularly good nearby option at the Verona Pool Courts: Cedar Grove's fall adult program uses designated learning courts alongside separate round robin courts, provides paddles and balls, and meets for five Tuesday evenings.

That learning court is the cleanest adult entry point. Begin there, get comfortable with serving, scoring, the two bounce rule, and kitchen position, then move into one of Verona's regular one hour recreation blocks. Players wanting more intensive instruction can use clinics or private lessons at Pickleball Palace in neighboring West Orange.

Tournaments and the Recreation Calendar

Smash and Splash is Verona's signature local tournament. The June 2026 edition at the Community Pool used round robin play, with intermediate players starting first and advanced players following at midday. Resident and nonresident entries were accepted, and a tournament pass included pool access for the day.

Regular recreation play is more important week to week. A solo visitor on a short trip has another strong route: Pickleball Palace West Orange offers drop-ins, open play, clinics, and four indoor courts just outside town. A group with its own players can use a private reservation there. In Verona, the scheduled recreation sessions are the better fit for arriving alone because the group is already built into the program.
